Green Ink is seeking freelance translators to work with us as Associates.
Our Associates are carefully vetted, independent freelancers who work with us as required, providing us with additional capacity, as well as particular specialist skills. You will work with our project manager and with our editorial teams and get to know our workflow and working practices.
We are seeking qualified translators with extensive experience of translating technical content in the subject areas set out below into their native languages in accordance with client terminology and style preferences. You should be affiliated to a recognised professional body such as the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) or the International Federation of Translators (FIT) or another similar organisation and/or have a recognised translation qualification.
We are particularly interested in translators working from English into French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese and Portuguese, and vice versa. You must be fluent in the source language and native in the target language. You will need to be able to work as part of a team and to show that you can work independently. You must be open to receiving revisions and feedback on your translation from technical reviewers on the client side.
The ability to edit and/or proofread in these languages would be an advantage; as would experience in using InCopy to integrate corrections.
Ideally, you will have experience of working with international organisations such as UN agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs) and the private sector.
We are looking for demonstrable subject experience of conducting translations in at least one of the following areas:
- environment, climate change, and water and natural resources management
- low emissions technologies and renewable energy
- sustainable transport and battery technology
- ecology, wildlife and biodiversity
- farming, agriculture, livestock, crops and forestry
- sustainable development, international development and development finance
- health, public health, pharmaceuticals and medicine
You should have demonstrable experience of translating copy about these issues, in a variety of formats, in different styles, and for different audiences.
Please apply by email to b.mitchell@greenink.co.uk including a short cover letter outlining why you are suitable, a CV and stating your charging rate. Please note that you may be required to take a test or supply a portfolio of work as part of the selection process.
